Welcome to Our Website!

Rangpur Education Development Foundation (REDF) is a non-government, non-profit humanitarian Foundation established on late January in 2006 which started development activities on behalf of the poor and ultra poor people through different education development programs. It is the outcome of joint efforts led by few local self-dedicated young social actors from various academic disciplines.
The Foundation was at first limited in several activities of a local club at Chowdhurani under Pirgacha Upazila of Rangpur district, one of the most remote and disaster prone northwestern district in Bangladesh. Total inhabitants of this district are about 3.45 millions. Mighty rivers Teesta, and Jamuna with its lots of tributaries and sub-tributaries have been flowing over the district and make the district most vulnerable to natural calamities especially Flood and river erosion. Flood is very common during the monsoon. There is high prevalence of drought almost in every dry season of the year on the other hand during winter season cold wave creates also havocs in the life and livelihood. It is a matter of great misery that river erosion makes numbers of people landless, homeless as well as asset-less and rendered people to migrate in another place for living. Among those affected people who are generally poor and ultra poor. The number of poverty stricken people is increasing day by day where the country situation is reverse. Lack of employment opportunity encompasses the severity of their sorrow and sufferings. There prevails a world of lacking and. One and only option for a large number of people is to sale their physical labor mainly in agricultural sectors and in household affairs. Work opportunity in agricultural sector creates only in particular period in a single year but they have to stay jobless during the rest time of this year and have to face innumerable sufferings to live on.  In this period, even they have to starve together with all their family members and sometimes they take single meal in a day.  Over all they are living in strange situation where vulnerability aggresses al the time. On the other hand, finding no other alternatives, a large number of labour classes have to migrate in other potential areas in urban and city towns in search of jobs. And they stay at their job place discarding his family in a dark situation with food insecurity. So women and children of those wage-earning members become more helpless without their guardians. The situation of women, adolescent girls and children are very vulnerable in those poor communities. Children are victimized particularly than female and male. They could not get to the opportunity to grow up accordingly. They are deprived and neglected but they have the rights to grow up like others in middle class communities. Rights are being abused in those communities. In addition, general society is fully dominated by the male counterparts and they are controller of their and tradition and culture as well. Women and children are deprived from their rights dually at their society and family level. Women’s dependence of men in many aspects of living and livelihood brings scoop of male domination on women and this subdues the women’s voice. Striking social problems in and around Rangpur are dowry, polygamy separation with husband, abandoned wife, early marriage during childhood, divorce, physical and mental torture on the wives render the life of women and children miserable. A group of youth had been involved in various socio-cultural and peoples’ welfare program around 1996 and gradually their effort turned into developmental program. REDF came to development field with small financing for the poor and small entrepreneurs to save them room the clutches of small entrappers.REDF has been implementing different development interventions with special emphasize to create the opportunity to educate and literate distressed and neglected Women and Children. Foundation is committed to do well for the vulnerable and distressed communities through socio-economic development initiatives.
